I feel a little random today. Definitely undirected. Can’t seem to make up my mind. Start something, get bored, start something else, maybe another, come back to the first. Very erratic, a bit haphazard.
Sometimes I envy people who seem to have a purpose to everything, every day. Every action is focused with laser-like precision towards some end. It’s not that I don’t have things I need to do, it’s just that, some days, those things just don’t seem to matter that much to me. They can wait.
Maybe it’s the time of year. It’s almost Christmas. A little more than a week away. Christmas always gives me pause. It’s a time of reflection, a time to take stock of what’s happened in the past year. Maybe that’s what’s causing my randomness today. Maybe not.
A business colleague of mine used to have a saying about personalities in organizations that speaks to my present randomness. “In business, there are people who make wakes, people who ride the wakes of others, and people who bob in the wakes of others,” he used to tell me. I like to think that when I’m “on” I’m one who creates a wake. Today, I feel like bobbing.
Tomorrow, we’ll go boating. Today, we’re floating. Sans regrets.
