The Month in Review: March 2018

Wherein we assess the damage done

A month’s end review of the good, the bad, and the ugly from Rudy’s Ruminations.

Well gentle reader(s), it’s month’s end again. March has come and gone. All 31 days have come and gone. I can hear you now, asking “But, rudyblues, isn’t that a bit maudlin?” Yeah, well, it’ my post, I’ll get cloyingly sentimental if I so choose. And what better time to publish a month’s end review than at month’s end! Right?

Again (oh no, not that again) I would like to use some of those nifty stats thingies from the folks at WordPress to take stock of this journey we’ve embarked on together. Yeah, I know, you didn’t sign up for this. None of you did. You clicked the link and poof, you found yourself in this nightmare odyssey with a madman. Tough!

I’d also like to bring you some of the more popular least disliked posts from the past month’s ruminating that you (possibly on purpose) may have missed. Kind of like not quite Golden Oldies, maybe we’ll call them Pyrite Oldies, not quite gold, and not all that old. Work with me here.

And I’d also like to spotlight some of my beloved follower(s) and maybe convince you to visit them a little more often. Shameless self-promotion only goes so far.

Views

The first thing we must realize is that March is the first full month’s blogging I’ve done in some time. And even that’s a stretch because I missed a couple of days in there. I did manage to scratch out a few more post than there are days in the month, so I’m counting it as a victory. Views in February were at 355, up from 151 views in January, an increase of more than 130% over the previous month. Again, I would like to attribute that increase to the high-caliber writing here on Rudy’s Ruminations, but it’s probably still due to the fact that I put up some posts. And tied them to some tags. And that Daily Prompt thing doesn’t hurt either. Actually, it seems a wonder anyone reads this bilge wash at all!

Visitors

There were 182 visitors in March, up from 72 in February. Again, with questionable math, that’s an increase of over 145% over January. Probably because I posted more. But that still means that some people are clicking over to see if there’s anything there worth reading. I hope they weren’t disappointed.

Likes

Likes were up too. In March there were 259 likes, up from 95 in February. That’s an increase of more than 170% over February. Again, it has to be the compelling writing here at Rudy’s Ruminations, compelling those people to click that little star. Or just any writing here, and those are sympathy likes. I’m not above that.

Comments

Comments were up, to 39 in March from 29 in February. That’s a 34% increase over February. I’m thinking my stuff isn’t so controversial that it generates a lot of comments. That’s alright, I hate big argument threads in comment sections anyway. See commentary under the section “Likes.” I’m sensing something here. No post, no comment. Whooda thunk.

Posts

I managed to make 33 posts in March, up from 12 in February. According to the gentle reader(s), these were the top five most viewed posts:

I Can’t Swallow That – March 25, 2108 – 20 views, 14 likes
– a short one on the ambiguous nature of the English language

Just Another Face in the Crowd – March 24, 2018 – 19 views, 14 likes
– a short look at the British Mod scene and possible parallels to today

I’m Not Above It – March 2, 2018 – 15 views, 16 likes
– a short response to the Daily Prompt and the various uses of “above”

Words We Should Use More Often – March 13, 2018 – March 13, 2018 – 15 views, 10 likes
– the first in a series of posts on English words I’d like to use more often

Now Which One Are You? – March 20, 2018 – 15 views, 10 likes
– recollections on a pair of identical twins

Followers

And now, without any fanfare at all, Followers. I started March with 65 followers, and I appreciate each and every one of them, even though I have no way to show that appreciation other than this heartfelt praise. The pony for every follower thing just isn’t going to work out. We’re up to 76 as we enter April. That’s a 10.2% increase. Following is a commitment. I, for one, have a thing about commitment, as witnessed by my on-again, off-again relationship with this blog. Nothing says non-committal like an unannounced year’s hiatus. You follow someone and then they just disappear.

Here’s where I pitch some of my wonderful follower(s), most of whom have no need for my cheap pitch, and are doing just fine on their own, thank you very much:

Poetry Out West – Poetry by Jodine Derena Butler

In her own words
“My poetry is a multi-faceted conglomerate of thoughts, feelings, experiences & mythology.”

Jodine Derena Butler followed me a long time ago. I’m still working out why. She’s a published poet and creative writer from down under whose work I enjoy in my WordPress Reader quite regularly, at least quite regularly lately. Although rudyblues isn’t much of a poet, he does appreciate one. I particularly like this one, though I never told her. One of my bad traits, I suppose.

Well, that’s all folks! Hope you enjoyed the show, and that you’ll come back next month. Until then I bid you all a fond adieu, sans the little apostrophe or whatever that thing is that the French are able to make on their keyboards that I never can. Happy blogging!

  1. Thankyou for your winderful review Rudy. I’ve tried to like this and other posts and made several comments but for some reason they are not showing…? I dont know much about settings, but perhaps something is turned off or needs approval? Please let me know if they have turned up in your notifications 🙂

    1. I got this one, but it’s possible the hangup was on my end. I recently reviewed my comment settings and tweaked them a bit. Add to that the fact that I haven’t been listening (blogging) for months on end. Just like a man, not to listen. Thanks for reading! 🙂

      1. Haha! I think you’re listening fine. I can’t seem to like your posts. You mat see on your stats that I have visited from Australia, but that’s it. Thankyou for choosing me and my poetry 🙂 You made my day x

      2. Your welcome! I’ll do some more investigative work and see what I can find. I may still have settings screwed up. Thanks for continuing to read through the technical difficulties.
